CHRISTMAS BREAK
I know some of you have asked where have I been? And where are the new entries on the blog ? Well I just took a short break , the blogs are back.
My wife and I went to Alabama on the 24th of December. When we left Belgium it was cold and we knew that Alabama would be warmer, we just didn’t expect for us to wear shorts over the break. When we landed my mother picked us up from the airport and when walked outside it was a nice 75 (24 c) degrees so we were off to a great start. Usually for Christmas breaks 6 days is the max so we rush to try to do a lot of things in a short time. This was different we got a 10 day break so things were at a less frantic pace. There are a couple of mandatory things that MUST happen when we go to Alabama : 1. see my whole family 2. go to church 3. eat at Outback 4. get Kripsy Kreme donuts 5. watch nba games 6. go to every mall within a 100 mile radius(160 km). We got all these things done. As far as doing anything special : on Christmas day we just ate, watched football and exchanged gifts. December 28thwas my birthday and this would have been just another birthday except for the fact i turned 30 and according to everybody i official turned old and my mother got me a birthday cake with yellow flowers on it (i am still mad about that). I know New Years Eve is the big party night were a lot of people get dressed up and go somewhere nice to start the new year with a bang. My New Years Eve went like this I bar-b-qued- that’s right, I grilled outside – hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, and ribs. Who grills on New years eve? I grilled out, we watched football and NBA games and played cards into the new year. After New Years my wife and I went shopping for our new baby that will be here in May (can’t wait). So a recap of the break we went to a mall 6 times, Outback 2 times, gave Leffe and chocolate to family members, and got kripsy kreme donuts. Not a bad break. But the worst part of the break happened Yesterday on our way back. Our first flight from Birmingham to Atlanta was scheduled for 110 p.m. but because of bad weather we were put on the 11 a.m. flight so we for sure would make our 445 p.m. flight from Atlanta to Brussels. When we got to Atlanta we found out that every flight was delayed or cancelled, and to make matters worse the airline overbooked the flight by 13 people . So around 450 p.m. we are are on the plane and the weather was clear enough to leave when a woman got sick 2 rows in front of us and the emt had to come on board to check up on her. This took an hour because the sick woman and her husband could not speak English and had to have everything translated back and forth between English and French. So after the women felt better she said she wanted to fly but the pilot says no that they could fly tomorrow and they had to grab their bags and get off the plane and 2 of 13 people who were overbooked got on. We left and 8 and half hours later we landed in Brussels but when we landed there was an announcement that “passenger Soors and Macuulom” had to check with someone because there was a problem. My wife and I check in they told us that our bags did not get on the flight and that our bags were coming from Philadelphia and that flight would land at 11 a.m. We asked why our bags were coming form Philly and we were coming from Atlanta. They told us because the luggage people didn’t know we were on the first flight from Birmingham to Atlanta they put our luggage on the second flight and it didn’t make it to Atlanta before we left to Brussels so they put it on the Atlanta to Philly flight and Philly to Brussels. I wish that was the end of it but it’s not because of the wonderful weather here in Belgium (16 degrees,-8.5 Celsius) the Philly flight which was suppose to land 11a.m. didn’t arrive till after 1p.m. and we got our bags at 3 p.m. bringing our total travel time to 26 hours. I would still do it all over again……….
