MARCH MADNESS
With the final 4 this weekend and I only picked 1 out of the 4 teams that made it(Kentucky). This season the term March Madness has really lived up to the name. I have really enjoyed watching it. With 2 teams in the final 4 that no one thought would make it, VCU and Butler(2 years in a row). College basketball is light years ahead of college football with having a playoff system and every team has a realistic shot at winning a championship. With all that being said college basketball is not what it use to be teams are not as good and talent is not as high as it was. The contributing factors are players are not just leaving early to play in the NBA they are also going overseas to play. Leaving a huge gap in talent in college. I for one am for players leaving early to play for money. For all the people who say the players need to go to and stay in college; I say this did the same people who say basketball players should go to school say that about Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber? Should they go to school? Or what about tennis players? No one should deny any person regardless of age the right to go after their dreams.
Now if I were in Charge of college basketball I would change a few things. In game changes I would reduce the shot clock from 35 seconds to 30 seconds, 35 seconds is way too long and scores would increase instead of watching a 52-47 game. I would put in a charge circle like they have in the NBA its way too many charges called in college basketball. Off the court changes players SHOULD be paid. A maximum $1,000 per month and a 20% cut of the players merchandise sold of the players jerseys, t-shirts, autographs, and any product being sold with his/her likeness or name. It’s the most un fair thing in the world for someone to sell your jersey or an autographed ball of yours and you don’t get any money for it. If a player wants to sell his/her ring and or game shoes etc online then the player can keep the money and not face punishment. If there is a coaching change at your school you can transfer to any school of your choice without sitting out a year. A coach can leave the athletic director can leave but the player can’t? And the last thing I would change is if a player is not happy at a school and wants to transfer he/she can without needed a release from the previous school and the previous school can not determine where the player can and can not play next. This is like filing for divorce and your ex saying I will give you a divorce only you can date the person I tell you to date. If your ex wants to date your best friend they can because they are no longer married to you but only in college athletics can you get away with something like that….
