WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

On this blog I usually stick to a simple format of basketball and personal posts but this one is a little on the political side so bare with me. In America, president Obama is trying to get (social) health care reformed. I truly wish that health care would fall into government hands.  That’s right I want government run health care.  We are a major industrialized country that doesn’t have government run health care. It works all over the world that the government pays/runs health care, why not in America? Making sure every citizen has free health care is it really that bad? Or do we need the insurance companies making decisions on who gets or how much coverage a person should have. If you have not seen the great documentary from Michael Moore called SICKO I suggest you do. In the documentary it talks about how insurance companies deny sick dieing people’s coverage because it will cost the insurance company money. Then what’s the purpose of insurance?? For my daughter’s shots she had 1 set done in America and the other set in Belgium. These shots are THE SAME SHOTS, in America the office visit alone was $225 so just to see the doctor was $225 and the shots were another $250 plus the shots were not even given by the doctor.  The total visit was $475.  Here in Belgium for the same thing it was 33 euros for the total visit, that’s right 33 euros and the shots were given by the doctor. And we get 70% of that back. What makes the difference in price? Is there a golden needle in America or do Belgian doctors have less education? Or is it greed and over charging in America? So all the people in America complaining that they don’t want to have social health care because they don’t want to pay for people’s health care who can’t afford it: you are selfish beyond belief. I have heard people say it will cost too much to provide health care to everybody guess what the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost America $907 BILLION dollars (http://www.costofwar.com/). We all know how great that has been.  I think it should be a basic right for people to have free healthcare, it should be this simple : you are sick, you go see a doctor without having to worry how you are going to pay for it.  My wife doesn’t understand that some people in America lost their houses because they were seriously ill.  Americans will say, well they probably didn’t have good insurance, my wife would say, in Belgium you don’t need extra insurance, the basic coverage everybody gets would have taken care of this.  Also I have to explain to my wife that people have to choose between medicine and food, going to the dentist or getting your car fixed because they can’t afford to do both.  It’s crazy.  My wife says all the Americans who think this is a bad idea should come over here and see how it works, and yes we all pay for it but we all pay for a lot of other stuff that is less important.
